USB connectivity being what it is, you won't just have to plug this thing in and begin playing. You're meant to just plug this sucker into the back of your computer, and start skateboarding, or raising puppies with Barbie, or whatever it is you like to do (totally your business¿ I'm not here to pry). No more "Mode" button, no "Start" button, and most importantly, no parallel port interface. Now Microsoft has jumped into the fray with its USB Plug and Play joystick, one of the two replacements for the irreplaceable Sidewinder, now mysteriously gone from shelves everywhere.Īs I'm sure you've noticed from the title, this pad is for the instant gratification urge in all of us. Well, it hasn't, but things have definitely gotten easier. Then along came Plug and Play, with its USB connections, which was supposed to cure the whole mess. PC users, on the other hand, tended to spend as much time installing a joystick as they did installing Windows, due to the myriad of port problems and other crap that got in the way of playing your favorite game. ![]() Anyone else a little bitter about the whole "Plug and Play" fiasco? If there was one thing that Apple users could brag about, it was that you could generally plug in a darn zip drive, or an extra hard drive, or a joystick or your kid brother or your wallet or whatever and have it actually work.
